Forming a PLLC in North Carolina involves a bit more work than forming a standard LLC. For a PLLC, the requirements of the owners' professional licensing board must first be met. Each profession subject to the PLLC requirement has specific forms and procedures which must be submitted to the appropriate licensing board for approval before a PLLC can be formed.
A PLLC, rather than a standard LLC, must be formed when setting up a business conducting "professional services" in North Carolina. The list of professional services is set out at section 55B-2(6) of the General Statutes. Those currently include: Architects, Attorneys-at-Law, Public Accountants, Doctors engaged in the "Practice of Medicine", Dentists, Optometrists, Osteopathy, Chiropractors, Registered Nurses, Veterinarians, Podiatrists Practicing Psychologists, Marriage and Family Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists, Licensed Professional Counselors, Engineers, Land Surveyors, Landscape Architects, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Geologists, Foresters, and Soil Scientists.
We can handle PLLC formations for a reasonable flat fee. If this applies to you, please email info @ kernerlawfirm.com to set up a time to discuss and/or meet. We can do these for you anywhere in North Carolina via Skype, Facetime, phone, or in person at our Wilmington office.
