The Daily Mail is reporting that arbitrators are expected to rule next week on the Scottish Premier League's proposal to create SPL2, a second tier league associated with the SPL. If the SPL, as expected, receives a favorable ruling, most of the clubs now comprising the First Division would move into SPL2, though several Second Division clubs would merit consideration.
The move would enable the clubs to, in theory, attract a better TV deal and better sponsorships, as well as share in SPL revenue. Currently, First Division clubs, as members of the SFL, must share revenues with the clubs in the Second and Third divisions.
